Looks alright Cheryl. I'd try and make it a bit more compelling & make the offer more of value to your target market. I can see where you're going with the idea of a $50 voucher... but I've personally tried this method before and it didn't work too well. It's not enough of a motivator for people to sign up & won't fly when running on Reddit (comes across to much like marketing).

You also need to think about who you're going to target via FB.

I actually propose you go really micro and get your early adopters from a smaller/niche community (Manly...Newcastle..Gold Coast) or for a specific skill set (handyman services, lawn mowing).

It will be hard to compete with Airtasker and Taskrabbit... What are your key differentiation points? From looking at your FB presences I sense you're more about the community and directly getting involved? Is that right?

Awesome Cheryl - let me know how you go!

I did have an auto-responder running & sent through follow-ups via kickofflabs.com neat email tools.

Referral rates definitely picked up as the test ran through days 2-5.

Hi Cheryl,

Test time really depends on your 'campaign reach'. I prefer keeping the campaign reach ~ 5000 people, thus with a reasonable CTR you should only need to run the test for 1-3 days.

Ideally I recommend driving ~100 visitors to your page which will give you some great feedback & cost no more then $25.

Depending on your idea, the assumptions you are looking to prove and your budget, this may need to blow out to 500-1000 visitors.

Results are specific to your goals/assumptions. Take into consideration your total reach, and put a figure on how many of them you need to signup to make your idea profitable.

For instance, with Boozeshare, the market opportunity was big (uni students, young professionals - 1000's of potential customers), so even if I got a 7% conversion rate I still think that would have been a success because the potential market was so big.

On the flip side, with my upcoming test (<a href="http://www.businesstesters.com/redpartypacks-red-cups-more-delivered-every-month/" title="UPCOMING TESTS: RedPartyPacks – Red Cups & More delivered every month" rel="nofollow">Red Party Packs</a>) - I know the market potential is a lot smaller, so my conversion rates will need to be upward 20%.

Hope that helps. If you have an idea test your working on I'd be happy to help you determine some more specific goals.

Hi Ross I'm really impressed with this test and might just try it out myself. Just wondering if your referral rate might have been higher if you had an email responder again prompting (and asking for help) to spread the word.

I'll run this this week and get back to you with my results.

Cheers
Cheryl

Hi Ross,

For testing purposes, what duration would be a good test time? And generally, what would be considered bad/good/excellent results?

Great thoughts Susan. Thanks for sharing.

I think it must be every uni students dream to have a 24 hour alcohol delivery service!

I definitely agree that there's more to just proving the demand for a service... there a number of factors and challenges that need to be addressed when starting any new business. With this idea, it has some serious legal issues and I've actually been contacted by a couple of independent companies and been flagged for investigation by the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR).

Fortunately, by taking a lean approach to testing this idea, not much time or money was spent to reach this learning outcome ($20 & 2 hours). That's what I'm striving to help entrepreneurs with here... the idea of getting quick and measurable feedback on all aspects of their new idea - whether that be potential demand, possible revenue models or potential legality barriers.

PS: Love your articles over at <a href="http://www.ReadySetStartup.com" rel="nofollow">ReadySetStartup</a>!
